Hotel New World 1986

1986 seems not very long ago.

But it is almost 40 years ago (as of this writing in 2024)

And there was the disaster that was Hotel New World.

Now there is a way to experience part of it in an audio guided tour.

From what I can figure, its from 1960s New World Park (now City Square), ranging into the Hotel New World collapse in 1986.

Singaporean story:

The collapse claimed 33 lives, but 17 were rescued from the rubble.

So the following weekend, "3317", and (presumably, also) "1733" were sold out at 4D outlets as gamblers punted on these numbers.

Singapore Pools won. That is, neither of these numbers were winners. Not even consolation prize. So all those bets? Revenue for Singapore Pools.

However, the next day, there was a Taoist(?) priest at the site trying to pray for the souls of the departed crushed in that tragedy.

He had been commissioned to do so by one punter who did win by betting on the death toll from this tragedy.

What number did the winning punter buy and how was he inspired?

Well, 33 people died, so that was the first two numbers, He also wanted to buy "3317" but it was sold out.

So he thought. And he thought.

And he bought "3310".

Because 33 people died in 1 hole (0).
