About

This is the History of Singapore as perhaps no one has ever told you.

(At least I hope so. Cos that would mean that you learned something here.)

Maybe, because it's not true.

Maybe because your history text ended with the Japanese invading Singapore.

Maybe because history is not simply about dates and facts. Maybe because history is about stories (hence the "story" in "history").

Maybe because like Life, history can only be understood backwards. And the further back it is, the better we understand it. Or the better the consensus for understanding it.

Maybe. A hundred, a thousand "maybes".

You can take this as one "maybe". A possibility. Not because I doubt the truth of the posts here, but because of "intellectual humility". In order to pursue truth, one must always be open to the possibility that the truth one has found may not be THE Truth, or may only be a step towards the truth, or that there are truer "truths" than what one knows.

I have been fortunate. Fortunate in having a curious mind. Fortunate that my curiosity can be satisfied (somewhat) by the internet. Fortunate that I live in this time. Fortunate that my work is somewhat related and allows me leeway to search for historical information. Fortunate that I am free to indulge my curiosity.

I have no intent of creating a definitive history of Singapore. I am an amateur with the passion and patience of an amateur. I just like a good story, and I want to tell a good story. And I want to know. If not the whole Truth, at least a plausible version of it.

Sometimes, in the story, I may tell you where I embellished to make the story better.

But sometimes I won't.
