Flashback 1931 - Adopting Convent Children

[From Aug 2018]

An application to adopt a young English girl whose father has abandoned her and her brother, and whose mother has passed away due to "consumption" (Tuberculosis).

The couple who wishes to adopt the girl wanted to take her back to England. However that would leave the brother behind in Singapore.

The girl and her brother were with the Portuguese Mission convent. After considering the welfare of the boy, who would be left behind, the adopting couple agree to adopt the two children. And the application would be re-submitted.

A letter from the former Chaplain of St Andrew's Cathedral, he disputes the testimony of the Portuguese mission nuns who said that the mother of the children requested that the children be raised Catholic.
